The Canticle Benedicite omnia opera, “The Song of the Three Children,” is the Fourth Psalm at Lauds on Sunday. It is taken from the apocryphal additions to Daniel, chapter 3, between the canonical verses 23 and 24. The verse numbering provided here is that which is found in the Authorized (King James) Version of the Apocrypha. The translation is combined from the traditional Anglican text and the King James Version, brought into conformity with the text inherited by the Lutheran Church from the traditional Latin. The insertion between vv. 66 and 34, “Bless we the Father,” etc., replaces the Gloria Patri.
