Johann Hermann Schein adapted this tune from Bartholomäus Gesius, Das ander Theil des andern newen Operis Geistlicher Deutscher Lieder, 1605, for his own text, “Deal with Me in Thy Grace, O God (Machs mit mir, Gott, nach deiner Güt).” Schein’s arrangement for five voices has been further adapted for our hymnals. It was included in the posthumous edition of his Cantional, Leipzig, 1645, No. 303. Here is Schein’s version:
