Proper Text: When O’er My Sins I Sorrow (Wenn meine Sünd mich kränken)
Originally composed by Michael Praetorius to accompany Nicolaus Selnecker’s text, “Ach Gott, wem soll ich klagen,” this tune was not used in hymnals until the Lutheran chorale revival in the nineteenth century, when it was joined to Justus Gesenius’s text, “When O’er My Sins I Sorrow (Wenn meine Sünd mich kränken).”
